Hi and thank you, my mum had been diaganosed with depression, she is only getting worse. Her symptoms are always the same, very bad nausea. She is sweet, kind, listens to doctors. she had been on meds, now seems over medicated and still suffering. she has had her stomach checked. The latest we have tried now is ECT. She is to have her 12th session on Wednesday and she tells me she is no better. We were told it helps 75% if patients. What do we do next? She is 76 years old and has so much to live for. I want her to feel better. help
For people with persistent subthreshold depressive symptoms or mild to moderate depression who have not benefited from a low-intensity psychosocial intervention following can be tried out!
1. Antidepressant (normally a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor [SSRI])
2.A high-intensity psychological intervention, normally one of the following options:
behavioural couples therapy for people who have a regular partner and where the relationship may contribute to the development or maintenance of depression, or where involving the partner is considered to be of potential therapeutic benefit.
Hope this helps!
