Suggest Treatment For Depression

Hi, my name is Robin Crawford and I am concerened about the medications my husband is taking. He is depressed and being treated for Depression by a doctor he sees every 3 months. MY concern is all he wants to do is sleep, I cant get him off the couch and he is sleeping during the day. He lost his 20 year old son to a drug overdose 2 years ago, and I understand that has to be hell, but I want to know which medication is making him a zombie?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. A lot of medicines used in depression cause drowsiness and this results in significant day time sedation. Some antidepressants like Tianeptine, Fluoxetine, Escitalopram etc dont cause drowsiness and are better tolerated if drowsiness is a problem. Medicines like stimulants as Amphetamines like Methylphenidate or other medicines like Modafinil, Armodafinil etc can be used. These medicines are used commonly to reduce drowsiness, improve day time alertness and reduce the depression. You can call a psychiatrist for his re-evaluation and for prescription of these drugs.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
