Suggest Treatment For Depression

I feel numb, worthless, and it feels like everything I do is wrong, I worry that people don t like me really and say bad things behind my back. I worry that no matter what it is it s my fault, I constantly apologize. I have lost interest in everything I love, except when I watch t.v. I no longer paint or draw or read. I m tired but restless. I m wide awake, but can t motivate myself to climb out of bed, if I don t have to work, I stay in bed all day. I have had suicidal thoughts very occasionally, but have never acted upon it. I need a diagnosis, from a specialist, and then decide if I need to take action. Please help.

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern and following is/are likely explanation:

1. The patient of depression, who says he wants to commit suicide, may really commit suicide, not immediately, but at an unexpected movement when everything seems alright & he seems out of depression, such patients should be evaluated by a Psychiatrist as early as possible.
2. Because attacks are repeatable which means you feel endangered and unable to escape which means there is ‘fear of fear’ i.e. vicious anxiety- panic attack- anxiety cycle, thus before taking panic attacks to be due to anxiety or depression make sure you have ruled out medical conditions like overactive thyroid, low blood glucose, use of excess caffeine, cocaine, amphetamines or heart problem.

PS. practice relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation but also Pranayam [anulom vilom] which will strengthen the relaxation response of body as opposite to stress response during panic attacks, i.e. don’t try to flee away from the situation which will reinforce the perception that your panic attacks are unbearable [remember they are uncomfortable but not life threatening], allow the symptoms to pass and you will gain ability to cope with them

3. Yoga poses [Dhanurasana, Matsyasana, Janu Shirsasana, Paschimottanasana, Hastapadasana], hot shower and massage are simple techniques to overcome tension from anxiety
4. Since the said problems can be grouped under GAD [generalized Anxiety disorder], Dietary Regime and Lifestyle management along with Medicine is in accordance with “manovaha srotas vyadhi”

. Avoid: alcohol, pepper, garam masala, mustard oil, pickles, rye, spicy food, anger, grief, fear, late night waking, garlic, ginger, onion
. Take: mint, coriander, tomato, and cumin, plenty of water, vitamins and mineral supplements, apple, banana, grapes, dates

5. Lemon juice mixed with sugar in a glass of water helps release stress removing hormones from the body and bring mind at peace/rest.

6. Apple, almond, banana, broccoli, cantaloupe, melon, carrot, cashew nut, corn, cauliflower, grapes, guava, lemon, mango, orange, pineapple, soybean, spinach have anti oxidant and detoxifying properties so take them in plenty.

7. Prescription drugs and procedures available for your problems are: sarpagandha, khus, jatamansi, bramhi, kevada, vacha, tagar, amla, smriti sagar ras, mahakalyanak ghrita, manasmitra vatkam, prabhav vati, mann medhya vati,Ashwagandharishta, sarasvatarishta, stresscom, nasya karma

8. Since drug therapy is generally only a palliative treatment, we have to look at cognitive and behavior strategies and especially nutritional strategies. I do recommend behavioral practice, whether it’s yoga, or meditation thus thus you should consult with your health care professional for CBT [cognitive behavioral therapy] to identify and counteract negative thoughts.
