HI

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

Weight loss could be attributed to his chronic diarrhoea.

Chronic diarrhoea with weight loss most of the times is due to malabsorption syndrome. Malabsorption could be for Carbohydrates , proteins or fat.

His hemoglobin of 8 could be due to malabsorption of either Iron or vitamins and his Edema is due to low protein in blood which is again due to less absorption of proteins from the gut.

Malabsorption can be due to either problem in Liver or Pancreas or GUt. I advise you to get Liver function test, Serum Lipase and Colonoscopy with Biopsy ( if necessary ) Also get the patient tested for Lactose intolerance and Caeliac disease.

Hope this information was useful to you .
Any clarifications feel free to ask.

Regards.

dear,
as I understand here, if your have lost 40 pounds in last 3 months, you immediately need to show yourself to a physician.
Losing that enormous weight is highly abnormal.
pain in abdomen and diarrhoea, suggest an infective cause and needs to be dealt with short course of antibiotics.
Norflixacin can be added by your doctor.
until then drink adequate fluids and glucose.
consult doctor as soon as possible for your weight loss.

wish you a good health.
thanks
