Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea In Children During Teething

My 28 month old grandson is having diarrhea sporadically. He is not acting sick, has a lot of energy but for the past 3 weeks, he will have diarrhea somtimes a few times a day. Other days, none at all.

He is getting his 2 year molars so teething could be a possibility but we are thinking it could be more than that.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain teething can cause mild diarrhoea in toddlers. It is most commonly due to the tendency of kids to take anything in mouth leading to carrying of infection from mouth to stomach leading to stomach infection and diarrhoea.

But if diarrhoea is lasting from a long duration and there are heavy volume stools you should consult a doctor as it can be due to infection in the stomach and not just teething..

As long standing diarrhoea can be fatal for the baby as it causes excessive water loss and severe dehydration.

If he does not have a continuous complain of diarrhoea you need not to worry as it can be due to taking infected things and contaminated fingers in mouth..

Keep your child well hydrated by feeding with milk, juices and water.

Give him clean teething rings to bite on so that he does not take anything that comes in hand into mouth.

Try and keep his hands clean to prevent infections.

If there are recurrent episodes of diarrhoea you need to consult a Paediatrician and get treatment done.

Hope your query is solved..
