Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea With Abdominal Cramps And Blood In Stool

8 days ago I started with very loose,watery stools that lasted 3-4 days. Thought it was a stomach bug. Days 5, 6 and 7 I was still having diarrhea but starting to change from liquid to very soft but not formed stools. I have been awoken for the past 5 nights running to the bathroom at least 2-3 times during the night/early am and continue with sharp abdominal cramping. Today, I went to my doctor who gave me a stool kit. I am collecting for Cdiff, O&P, WBC and stool culture. I noticed (which I hadn t before) that there were specks of blood in my stool and it was more like mucus. I m also an RN..trying not to overthink..but not sure what this could be??

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of diarrhea with abdominal cramps and blood in stool. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gastroenteritis , food allergies , lactose intolerance , giardiasis , irritable bowel syndrome or appendicitis. Need not to worry. For now eat light and non spicy , take antacid after every meal, drink plenty of water and take light walk after every meal. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order ultrasound , endoscopy or stool test. Doctor may prescribe omeprazole , laxative , ornidazole or albendazole. You should take small and frequent meals and avoid taking large meals at at time.
