Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea With Black Sandy Stools

My 22 year old daughter is having diarrhea with a black sandy texture. She has some cramping. . She is on college break and drove her Grandma to Florida, eating at restaurants along the way, fast food, etc. She vomited a couple days prior to the diarrhea. It s the coffee ground texture that concerns me. She is taking iron for anemia and just started using the nueva ring. She is otherwise healthy. Should she find an immediate care or er? Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of diarrhea with black sandy stools which seems to be due to electrolyte imbalance in body leading to acute gastroenteritis and food poisoning. it could be due to internal ulcers and due to hemorrhoids. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Start with combination of fluoroquinolones and ornidazole.

- Get intravenous fluid administration.

- Drink plenty of fluids to rehydrate yourself.

- Avoid hot, sharp and spicy food.

- You should avoid taking dairy products in excess.

- You can take banana on daily basis and light food.


Visit gastroenterologist once and get it examined and start treatment after prescription.
