Suggest Treatment For Difficulty Breathing And Lowered Heart Beat Rate

My Father aged, 81 had a sudden increase in his heart rate and difficulty in breathing due to Wheezing. He was taken to the Intensive care unit where his heart beat was measured to be 200 which now has reduced to 141. Doctors suspect heart failure. I love him a lot and am very worried. Please suggest a medication.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, your father has acute cardiac failure which is decompensated in nature most likely. This stage requires admission at intensive care unit with high flow oxygen to maintain SpO2, intravenous diuretic, vasopressors, correction of arrhythmia if any as documented by an EKG, supportive care and control of blood sugar.

It is on discharge policy once the patient becomes stable to get medicinal support in form of anti anginal, anti hypertensive, anti platelets, ACE inhibitors and anti lipid if panel alteration of lipid profile. I would recommend to keep calm in this panic situation and do wait for his condition to settle and take him home with a smile.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
