Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 82 year old mother has , over the past week been experiencing difficulty in breathing normally. It happens suddenly around 12 noon and lasts for up to an hour to 2 hours. Her chest moves up and down with an accompanying distress moaning/groaning sound. She dont have such a problem in the early morning or evening. It happens suddenly and at times her hands tremble and she may feel cold. She also belches alot especially after drinking water . We also have a housebound pet ( male Cat ) which spends time on her lap. Her appetite is good but cannot eat during the episode. She also spits alot lately and complains of a bitter taste in her mouth. No history of heart issues or hypertension . HELP ME.
I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your mother symptoms could be related to a lung disorder or possible heart failure. For this reason, I would recommend consulting with her attending physician for a physical exam, a chest X-ray study and pulmonary function tests in order to exclude a possible lung disorder.
It is also important performing a cardiac ultrasound and NT pro BNP plasma levels for possible heart failure. Some blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, ESR, blood electrolytes) may be needed. You should discuss with her doctor on the above tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
