Suggest Treatment For Difficulty In Opening Mouth Along With Sore Throat

I have had a sore throat for last week. Started off like i d swallowed razor blades then had swollen glands and difficulty opening my mouth, swallowing or eating. Docs took a swab and rules out tonsilitis and glandular fever and although i am feeling a little better, am still struggling to open my mouth fully.

Hello,

You are suffering from sore throat since last week, you also had developed swollen glands that are hurting. You have difficulty in swallowing and also opening the mouth. You got yourself examined by your local doctor who examined you and have ruled out tonsillitis and glandular fever. You are suggested to gargle your throat 3 times daily with warm salt water. Take liquid or semi solid diet so that you don't hurt your throat.

Take sips of water throughout the day to help mucosa stay moist and hydrated. Give voice rest, talk only when required. You can take a course of Augmentin (for 5 days) to clear out infection. To get relieve from pain, take acetaminophen, one SOS when required. Keep cough lozenges in your mouth to stay comfortable. You can take antihistamine at bed time, once daily for 5 days to reduce symptoms of allergy and discomfort.

You are unable to open your mouth, it can occur as a result of calcium and mineral deficiency, take oral rehydrating fluids to feel better. Difficulty in opening the mouth can also be due to temporomandibular joint and muscle disorder, TMJ arthritis, trauma to the jaw, oral surgery, infection or may be indicative of cancer. Get clinically examined by an ENT & a dentist if your symptoms do not get better. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
