Suggest Treatment For Dizzy Spells And Elevated Blood Pressure

I ve been on lisinopril (10 mg) for several years and have just begun having dizzy spells. My blood pressure is also 152/75 (avg.). I am concerned that the drug is not doing its job or may need increased. This is the first my BP has been elevated. In fact, my sodium has been low at my last 2 annual exams and my BP was 110/70. Should I be concerned?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of uncontrolled high blood pressure. I agree with you on the fact that lisinopril is not efficacious in controlling blood pressure values. For this reason, I recommend consulting with your doctor for a physical exam, some new blood lab tests (thyroid hormone levels, kidney and liver function tests, blood electrolytes) and discuss about the possibility of adding a new drug to your current therapy (Amlodipine or Hydroclorthiazide).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
