Get him to visit an ENT specialist and get his tonsils checked. I suspect an upper respiratory tract infection possibly requiring antibiotic coverage. In case this has already been ruled out, request your doctor to check for other causes like pertusis. I would also like you to wait for a day or two to see if things get better.
