Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough In A Diabetic Person
Hi. I am a type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump. Having dry cough and crackling noise in my chest. No fever, blood sugars are at good levels (currently 105). I m guessing bronchitis, but unsure if I should let it pass on its own or see my doctor. Do I need Rx mess to take care of this? I know my T1D condition can complicate illness and escalate quickly, but also don t want to go in to be seen for nothing. Make sense? Thanks in advance for your help. --CC Pardo

HI
Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P Thanks for posting your query.
Dry cough with cracking noise in chest indicates a chest infection. I don't think its bronchitis as in bronchitis there will be wheezing which is not a cracking sound and also there will be breathing difficulty.
It's a chest infection either due to Virus or bacteria. Viral infections doesn't require any significant treatment as it subsides on its own most of the time.
So my advise is to wait for 2 days more , drink hot water , do salt water gargling , avoid non veg food and citrus fruits. If inspite of doing all these there is no relief then you better consult your doctor.
Hope this information is useful to you. Any clarification feel free to ask.
