Suggest Treatment For Dry, Dull, Pigmented Skin On Face With Whiteheads
Hi Doc, Hope you doing well.. I have been using Betnovate cream and my skin became good in terms complexion and decreased pigmentation. I did stop using for a week and now it s extremely dry , dull, whiteheads, and pigmentation specially mouth area. It looks so odd. I did buy today Betnovate again and not able to stop as I want clear skin at least not dark mouth area. I am an Indian. I really need your help and I totally understand that this cream is not meant for face skin. Looking forward to get some bvery useful tips. and also I did use Astrigent and Lacto calmine for skin.

Betnovate cream is a steroid based cream containing Betamethasone and it should not be used for fairness purpose. Steroid creams initially shows wonderful effects on face by reducing pigmentation and brightening the face. But long term use has severe side effects like skin thinning, pimples, inflammation, rashes, itching, excess hair growth and dilated veins under the skin.
On continuous use the skin becomes addicted or dependent on steroids and once the use is suddenly stopped, there are withdrawal side effects. It is the same thing that you are facing now that is increased pigmentation, rashes, swelling, redness etc..
You should consult a Dermatologist who can evaluate you clinically and also advise you a low potency steroid cream that has to be used for a week regularly and then gradually tapering down the use and then will be stopped gradually. It will help in preventing side effects of sudden withdrawal. You can apply cooled aloe vera gel on face to soothe the skin. Let the skin heal once then you can use appropriate depigmentation creams to reduce darkness.
