Suggest Treatment For Dry Itchy Cough

I Hello, I m a 67 male with type 2 diabetic for 10 years, A1C 6.4 I think I m pretty healthy. Mother died of stroke at 78 and father died of bladder cancer , found at age 96 and passed 97. I have a nagging cough, kind of dry tickle that make me clear my throat often. This started about 2 months ago, should I be concerned ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your dry cough can be due to laryngopharyngeal reflux. In such case taking proton pump inhibitors like esomeprazole ( Nexium ) will be helpful. Elevate the head end little more with additional pillows while sleeping. Have food at least 2 hours before bed time. Avoid fatty, greasy and fried foods. Carbonated drinks, excess coffee, alcohol and smoking should be avoided also. These measures will be helpful to solve this problem. If there is no improvement then consult your physician to rule out other problems.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
