Suggest Treatment For Dryness On Tongue When Taking Wellbutrin

I have been on 300 mg wellbutrin and have burning mouth syndrom which lamical has been given for, going up slowly from 25mg to now 200 mg lamical started recently . I now find that my tongue is extremely dry with crevaces that feel like bumps on back of tongue (not sure if its the skin that seems to have lifted in crevces that feels like bumps). Can the combination of the two drugs cause this horrible dryness?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain Wellbutarin (bupropion) is an antidepressant medication used to treat major depressive disorder and  it has a common of dry mouth as well as Lamical (Lamotrigene) is a triazene anticonvulsant and it also has a side effect of causing dry mouth to some extent and in case if you are taking both of these drugs increase in dryness of mouth and exaggerated symptoms of Burning Mouth Syndrome can be evident..

Creavices on tongue and bumps on back of mouth is occurring due to Dry mouth only and the bumps on the back of tongue can be due to inflammed circumvallete papilla..

You should consult your physician and explain him the immediate symptoms and the reduction of dose of medicine s or change of drug whichever is required can be done by your doctor..

For symptomatic relief from the symptoms of dry mouth you can take SALIVA SUBSTITUTES containing methyl cellulose can be instilled in mouth for lubrication..

SALIVA STIMULANTS like sour candies, lemon drops and sugar free chewing gums can be taken to stimulate saliva flow..

Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration and it will also ease in dry mouth..

Maintain a good Oral hygiene as the patient with dry mouth tend to develop more cavities and gum infections as well as opportunistic infections like Thrush..

Warm saline gargles can be done..

Hope this information helps..
