I ve had dysphagia for a year now and finally went to an ENT and he insists its reflux related so he referred me to GI and had an EGD done. Although all areas looked normal on pictures he still took biopsies. I should get results in a week or so but if those should happen to come back normal how do I make my Dr understand that I really think it s head and neck related and not redux issues?
Hi. Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Many a times instead of going to the detailed dissection of hte problems getting a symptomatic relief is more important. There are occasions where the reports may be totally normal yet the person suffers, and this is where the clinical evaluation comes into play as is seen in your case.
The UGI Endoscopy looks normal in spite of of normal appearance of the esophagus. You have dysphagia over a year and this is totally a very subjective symptoms. Hence may be related to the : Motility disorders which can be detected on motility and acidity studies and may be more related to the habit of smoking and drinking (if you do) or to the anxiety and the stress you may be having. I hope this answers you query.
