Suggest Treatment For Ear Bleeding After Usage Of Q-tip
My 17 year old son has been saying his ear is stopped up off and on for the past few days. This evening he cleaned it with a q-tip in my presence and there is red blood on it. We are out of state and cannot go to his doctor until Monday. What do you think it is and what should I do? He has no pain but feels like there is a film over his ear . Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Aggressive cleaning with a q-tip can injure the ear drum and can cause mild bleeding. I would suggest your son to visit your doctor in order to get examined. Your son may be prescribed antibiotic ear drops like ciprofloxacin to prevent any infections. Avoid using Q-tip since it would push the wax deep inside the ear.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
