Suggest Treatment For Ear Drum Rupture

Hi, my 6 year old son has had a middle ear infection which resulted in his eardrum rupturing. He has been on penicillin since yesterday and doesn t appear to be in any pain now. He is eating and drinking normally. Would he be ok to go to football (soccer) training tomorrow or would it be advisable to keep him at home? Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Middle ear infection is called 'otitis media'. Due to the collection of pus, since there is no outlet, tympanic membrane ruptures and the pus comes out as secretions. In children, when this condition is treated with antiinflammatory drugs and appropriate antibiotics for prescribed duration, it will heal by itself. The ruptured tympanic membrane closes once the ear recovers completely from infection.
But during this acute phase, let him take rest. As playing games like Soccor can give a chance to spread the infection and lead to complications. Once the infection subsides, he can get back to playing all these things.
However, he can do his routine things as of now.
Hope the information provided is clear.
All the best.
