Suggest Treatment For Edema

Hi I currently have (developed and getting worse over past fee weeks) what I would consider quiet severe edema, which I have had in the past and was put in diuretic medication and my blood pressure medication was increased at the time. The medication seemed to do its job however im not the best at remembering to consistently take my medication daily my legs and ankles and feet are have swollen up again this time at their worst I think. IThey seem to have gone red/purple in color this time larger than normal and some what sensitive and sore. I cant bend my legs to my full extent squat or kneel on the floor as I feel to much pressure or stretching of my skin. The fluid seems to be building up past my knees and midway into my thighs! I also have had shortness of breath after not even doing anything to strenuous I also notice it when I attempt to lay down when going to bed and my pillow is to flat. I am a single mother with 16 month old twins and a 13 year old and minimal help from family and friends so presenting myself to the ER dept at a hospital us really my last resort cause there really isn t anyone to take care of my kids for more than a few hours.

hello
Welcome to HCM.
Firstly I would like to clarify a few details.
When did your symptoms first start. Do you have a family history or past history of such complaints since childhood including cardiac or kidney or thyroid problems?
were they aggravated by your pregnancy and were there any complications ?
In your case, the condition seems systemic or internal rather than just of the skin. The discolouration could be due to the fluid build up and improper blood flow. The upward progression of the edema could be brought on by the stress of pregnancy on a previous problem.
I would advise you to firstly get a screening of your blood pressure levels and tests for kidney function, thyroid panel and cardiac too if required.
An ultrasound of your legs maybe required. Once these conditions are checked, the exact treatment can be started which MUST be taken regularly.
In the meanwhile, rest . Keep your lower limbs elevated whenever possible. Keep ur feet covered and don't stand for long periods.
Reduce your salt intake. Check your urine output.
The earlier you check with a physician the better.
I encourage you to do so promptly. Hope this helps.
