Hi
Thanks for posting you query on HCM
Elephantiasis is a disease caused by a microfilaria Wuchereria bancrofti. But not all swollen legs mean elephantiasis.A possible leg tumor should be eliminated as well. The diagnosis of elephantiasis is usually confirmed by identifying the microfilariae is a blood sample collected at night or through an immunodiagnostic test.Treatment nowadays is with mectizan. In the US, microfilaria is not an endemic problem like in most African countries. But when the test comes positive, the drugs are readily available at the CDC center for you to benefit from.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
