Suggest Treatment For Elevated A1C Levels In A Type 2 Diabetic Patient
56 years old. I drink 18 to 24 light beers a day and smoke two packs of cigarettes a day. I am also diabetic (type 2) on Lantus. Also, I do 35 mg of Norco a day for neuropathy. High anxiety, stress, depression, fatigue and sit at desk all day long. No excercise. 6 ft. tall 165 lbs. Sleep in 4 hour increments. Last blood panel came up with flying colors ecept for elevated A1c (9) . Having trouble with word recall, short term memory. I have drank beer for 40+ years. Help?
I'm sure its HBA1C levels you are concerned for which indicates the sugar levels for you in last some months. Given your history you are already on lanctus preferred approach would be dose modification according to present health so a regular follow up should be helpful with a physician. As well as lifestyle changes as regular exercise and de-addiction should be great help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Suchita Yohan Halli, Emergency Medicine Specialist
