Suggest Treatment For Encopresis In A Child

My granddaughter r is 5yrs old with encopresis. It started at the age of 3 after she was potty trained. We have done the Miralax for a year, not helping. I started with enemas and suppositories and that help some. Is it harmful to continue the enemas once a week. She is very opposed to it and fights our attempts.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

In most cases yes, but for encopresis, regular use of laxatives is normally recommended.
The goal is to produce at least 1 to 2 soft stools daily.

It does not have to be by an enema, she can use an oral laxative as well since she dislikes the enema.
eg milk of magnesia, sorbitol, lactulose

I hope this helps
