Suggest Treatment For Esophageal Spasms, Soreness In Throat, Chest And Neck Muscles
I have been experiencing esophageal spasms for several months now. The attacks are violent and disabling. The next day I am unable to speak due to soreness in my throat, terrible jaw pain with one side drawing up. I have even had the jaws to lock up. My chest and neck muscles are incredibly tight and sore. Is this normal post attack issues?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Esophageal spasms are characterised by sudden and violent contraction of esophageal muscles causing pain and difficulty in swallowing. A clinical assessment and relevant investigations primarily barium swallow and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy will be required to diagnose the condition. Management will depend on the lesion identified after investigations. In case there is increased spasm in the esophageal muscles, muscle relaxants can help. If the medication is unable to control the symptoms, surgical excision of the muscles will be required. I suggest you to consult a gastroenterologist for clinical assessment, investigations and thus treatment.
