Suggest Treatment For Excess Growth Of Thyroid Gland

My niece has a thyroid that has grown to 8 cm X 8 cm. The surgeon wanted her to try radiation therapy first; however, her insurance won t cover it. Therefore, they will be performing the thyroidectomy soon. I m shocked at the size of this and I m very worried for her. Should she get a second opinion?

I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

She has enlarged thyroid. It can be due to multinodular goitre, follicular neoplasm, papillary carcinoma or some other cause. She should go for ultrasound neck and fine needle aspiration cytology of thyroid mass. It will give you exact diagnosis. Then she should take treatment accordingly.
