Hi,

How long is the problem there? Excess secretions or sputum from throat and nose indicates upper respiratory infection or allergy, and is unlikely to be related to pregnancy. We need not be worry if it clears in 5-7 days, not yellow, purulent or bloody, and not associated with fever or headache. Otherwise, this needs evaluation for sinusitis or pharyngitis needing antibiotic treatment.

Since you have blood stained secretions now, I suggest you to consult a physician. This can suggest pharyngitis, although repeated forceful throat clearing itself can sometime cause mucosal injury and blood streaking.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
