Hi, I am 56 & on a cpap machine. I have a lot of saliva and it makes the mask loosen up. I find myself drooling on my pillow. I have to sleep on my sides do to my apnea, what can I do to slow down on the saliva production and keep my mask on? I have tried different masks and nothing helps . I have been using a cpap for about six years on & off. T
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that the most probable cause of excessive salivation while sleeping with CPAP Machine seems to be due to mouth breathing while sleeping.. This is the most common cause and open mouth will lead to drooling of saliva.. I would suggest you to consult your treating physician and he can advise you to wear masks with chin straps that will help in keeping the mouth closed while sleeping.. You can also apply a vertical strip of micropore tape over closed lips as it will help in keeping mouth closed.. You can also gargle with a mouthwash before sleep as it will have drying effect in mouth and reduce saliva flow.. Certain creams are available in market that will help in keeping saliva flow low..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
