Suggest Treatment For Excruciating Joint Pain, Hair Loss And Hot Flashes
I had a unilateral mastectomy last June 30 and have been taking Exemestane for 7 months. The joint pain is excruciating, my hair is falling out, I have hot flashes. I m also taking calcium and vitamin D. I don t want to take pain killers, Aleve, Advil, Motrin, because I have high blood pressure and I m taking 3 medications for it, Losartan, Atenolol and Amlodipine. I take Naproxen every 2 or 3 days when I just can t stand the pain. I put lidocain patches on my knees about twice a week.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Exemestane is a medication used to treat breast cancer. It can cause side effects such as joint pain, hair loss, and hot flashes. The joint pain can be managed with pain medication, but as you have high blood pressure and are already taking several drugs, it may be best to avoid painkillers such as Aleve, Advil, and Motrin.
Naproxen can also be used to manage pain, but it should be used sparingly and under the guidance of your doctor. The lidocaine patches can also be used to manage pain. It may also be helpful to speak with your doctor about alternative options for managing the side effects of Exemestane.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
