Suggest Treatment For Extreme Dizziness And Low Heart Rate
Woke up with extreme dizziness. Could not function at all. 911 came and whizzed me to a hospital where eventually I stayed in bed for 4-5 days, unable to get up to use the bathroom. Cardiologists from a group came early each day. Finally, a neurologist came and noticed a low heart rate of 30/min. for several days. He ordered an MRI, which showed a stroke had occurred. After a pacemaker was inserted, I felt better at once. Diagnosis was AFib causing a stroke. I am on meds including Pradaxa for about 3 years now. Question: Why do these Websites not mention low heart rate as a cause of AFib? Usually, rapid and intermittent heart beats are mentioned, but not low heart rate.
Hello, from the information you have provided, you might have what is called thr 'sick sinus syndrome' (Although more information would be needed to be sure). Basically the sinus node malfuntions and the patient's heart rate may get too slow at times and then becaome normal spontaneously, similarly the heart may also get fast and resolve after some time. There may be transient atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation may lead to formation of clot in the atria and subsequently stroke. The treatment of sick sinus is insertion of pacemaker. I hope that helps, Regards
