Suggest Treatment For Eye Irritation Caused After Reaction With Pool Water

Our swimming pool suddenly was making our eyes really hurt- scratchy, ache, red. I can t wear my contacts. Everyone who swam had the same problem. Turns out the copper from the pool heater could was disintegrating into the pool. The hurt is not subsiding. Is there something we can do to cleanse the eyes; and is this dangerous?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to an eye reaction due to the pool water. I recommend to use an artificial tear to relieve the eye irritation. I also recommend to use cool compresses of chamomile tea for relieve.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
