Suggest Treatment For Fatigue, Vomiting And Diarrhea

My mother is 87 and has felt some fatigue off and on for last three weeks. She experienced one bout of vomiting and diarrhea two weeks ago. She has days where she feels fine and then all of a sudden gets a warm feeling and weak, which makes her need to sit down. She feels nausea at that time too. She has had a loose stool once a day for last three days. After that she only passes a little solid stool when she urinates. I am trying to get her to go to ER, but then once she feels better, she refuses. She is treated for anxiety and depression. Also, has GI problems that are controlled with one Entocort per day.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

She may be suffering from chronic diarrhoea with bowel incontinence. The possibility of decreased bowel movements due to chronic bedridden or sedentary lifestyle or low fibre diet.

Chronic diarrhoea may be due to malabsorption syndromes or food intolerence or irritable bowel syndrome or chronic infection etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Get it done stool examination and microscopy for ova and cyst.

Get it done serum electrolytes and thyroid profile. Give her high fibre diet and also check for spinal cord problems.

Please consult your neurophysician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
