Suggest Treatment For Fever And Ear Pain In A Child

My 5 year old has build up of wax and ear tube is not positioned correctly in ear. He has no fever. His throat is clear with minor sinus drainage. He cries as if in pain and pulls at ear. He has disability and can t tell me what the problem is. Urgent care could not explain problem. Could the position of ear tube cause the pain?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

As there is severe pain by pulling at pinna, there is definite inflammation going on involving inner or middle ear as otitis or else. Primary relief with:
- Local application of ciprofloxacin ear drops 4 times a day
- Analgesic as ibuprofen with acetaminophen every 6 hourly as per weight and age dosage guidelines
- Prescription of antibiotics as penicillin, azithromycin or else from his pediatrician

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
