Suggest Treatment For Fluctuating Heart Rate Throughout The Week

My 90 year old mother, sometimes has a high heart rate & other days it is ok . . . What could be the cause of this? It truly fluctuates, day to day- Very concerning to all the family. (she is in a wheelchair, unable to walk or care for herself- We have a caretaker that is in the home with her & my elderly father)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since your mother is experiencing fluctuating heart beat throughout the week. You are suggested to get her clinically examined, get all cardiac tests done. Investigations to be done are CBC, Urinalysis, Lipid profile, EKG, stress tests, Echo, etc. She may be suffering from Arrhythmia or Atrial fibrillation. She may need medicines or surgery depending upon the clinical condition and reports of the tests obtained. Neglect may result in the worsening of the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
