Suggest Treatment For Fluctuating Sugar Levels During Pregnancy

Hello doctor.. my wife is 7week pregnant and earlier we had 2 miscarriage and both the cases high sugar was diagnosed and thyroid. Currently her sugar level is fluctuating from 5th week onwards. Doctor had started insulin (Levimer and Nova rapid) however we took a second opinion and this doctor is more experienced and suggested to stop the insulin as he wanted to monitor the fluctuations in 2hr reading so advised for melmetSR 500...(3 times).. wife was taking melmetsr 500 before conceiving during bed time. However after conceiving she was asked to start Levimer. So we are a bit confused if it is fine to take melmet 3 times daily? Regards, Pradeep

Hi, it is fine to take metformin 3 times per day. It is also used to control the blood sugar levels in pregnancy. So, if sugars are controlled on metformin, you can avoid taking insulin injection. If it is not controlled by metformin, then insulin is the other option. Get the sugars tested pre meals and 2 hours post meals. Hope I have answered your question.
