Suggest Treatment For Fluid Retention

I had a bilateral masectomy on June 11th and an axilary node surgery on June 18th and am still dealing with lots of discomfort from fluid retention. Should I be contacting my surgeon or still play the waiting game on this? I start chemo on July 23rd.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Fluid retention( seroma) is quite common after breast surgery. Consult a general surgeon and get an ultrasound scan. If there is excess fluid, it has to be drained.

Nothing much to worry as it can be done under local anaesthesia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
