Suggest Treatment For Fluttering Feeling In The Ear

i was awakened by my daughter screaming (loudly!) into the baby monitor, which has the volume too loud right by my bed. When I got done helping her, I noticed a "Fluttering" in my left ear, like a tiny bass drum being played. seems like a spasm or a twitch of the eardrum? and now i can't sleep. i have to give two presentations today and this is very annoying and distracting. i have found if i cover the ear with my finger it either stops or i cant notice it. please help!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that fluttering feeling in the ear along with continuous sound of bass drum after exposure to sudden loud sound seems to be TINNITUS and is most probably due to perforation in the eardrum due to sudden acoustic trauma [sound trauma] and as there has been sudden pressure difference round the eardrum there seems to be perforation..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Otoscopy, x ray, Audiometry can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

In case if there is a small perforation you can be advised antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkillers along with antibiotic and decongestant ear drops..
In case of large perforation surgical repair that is known as Tympanoplasty can be advised..
To reduce Tinnitus you can also be given symptomatic treatment like tricyclic antidepressants Amitryptalline and Neuromodulation..
Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
