Suggest Treatment For Folliculitis On The Face

I have folliculitis on my face that has not gone away despite multiple types of treatments. It is not very bad right now but I think I have acne combined with it. Someone told me going to a tanning bed helped eliminate her folliculitis and acne. Do you think tanning could make it worse in any way?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Tanning has no role in reducing a bacterial infection. Only antibiotics can reduce the infections. The drugs that have been previously prescribed has not been mentioned.

Since the history suggests severe infection, topical drugs alone may not be sufficient. Oral drugs for 2 to 3 weeks may be required. Anti-bacterial soaps can be used. Drugs like cephalexin or ciprofloxacin can be used. Avoid picking or touching the face often. Wash your face towels often. Avoid using any oily preparations on the facial skin.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
