Suggest Treatment For Foot Pain

Since Tuesday evening I have been having pain on the top of my left foot. It started suddenly while I was outside getting ready to take a walk. I havent dropped anything on it, havent injured it in anyway. Today the top of my foot is swollen. It s painful to walk on it without limping. Any suggestions on what may be causing this pain and what can I do about it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
welcome to hcm,
I really appreciate your concern,
Well, foot pain is a very mysterious issue as it is always difficult to pin point where the pain is coming from. There are so many points which can cause pain from any site, so an examination is a must.

But as for the middle part of the pain, I would like to ask you a few more questions to help me narrow down if it is inflammatory or is it age related:

1. Did you have any similar episodes before?

2. Is the pain more only on walking or while you are resting or sleeping as well?

3. How do you feel in the mornings when you wake up? Is the pain more or less?

4. Any swelling noticed?

5. Any associated back ache or neck pain??

6. When did your menses cease? ( As bones are prone to fracture if menopause happened early)

Well, for now I would suggest you dip your feet in hot water( 10 minutes) morning and evening. Secondly you can try with tablet Celecoxib 200 mg twice daily for 3 days to see how the response is. Incase it doesnt improve it will be worth while to get a X ray and an Ultrasound done.
Please let me know if you have any questions,
thanks.regards.
