I am a 42 yr old health professional. I have struggled with bad breath and dry mouth my entire life. I am missing both submandibular glands and I have a hx of mumps as a child. As far as I know, the glands never functioned. I got so depressed in college about my halitosis, I elected to get my tonsils out. Unfortunately, a few months later I developed an odor from my nose. Now 20 yrs later, not only do I have bad breath, I also have a nose odor. The odor is strongest when I eat or when it is humid. I brush and scrape my tongue and I gargle. My breath has gotten better but not the nose. I cannot smell it but people around me say it smells like someone passed gas. How embarrassing. Please, help!
I am sorry to hear your about your distress. I understand the embarrassment. Two things immediately strike my mind. 1.Atrophic Rhinitis 2. Check if you have a reflux of acid from your stomach. Since your mouth is dry, It tends to get halitosis. I suggest you to take sips of water regularly, Or maybe artificial saliva substitutes. The way you describe that you can't feel any smell, but others get to smell bad odour,is clinching for Atrophic Rhinitis.. Its treatable, So pls consult an ENT immediately
