Suggest Treatment For Frequent And Heavy Menstrual Cycles

My 15 year old daughter has been taking Rigevidon pill for 2 and half months now due to a frequent heavy menstrual cycle. She has unexpectedly gained weight and feels nauseous and weary. Will this settle down or would another treatment be more suitable for her? Many thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
During the initial phases of menstrual periods (attainment of menarche), some of them would experience such menstrual irregularities and might require medications.
This is caused due to imbalance in certain hormones, which should get corrected over a period of time, and the menstrual cycles should normalize.
What medications has been advised should be fine for now and kindly take it as advised. Since these medications are hormonal in nature, it could cause certain side effects like nausea and weight gain, which can be overcome after the medications are stopped.
In case such problems persist or become worse, she needs to undergo investigations like ultrasound scan and blood hormonal levels to know what could be the cause for it, so that it can be appropriately treated.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
