Hi & Welcome.
Based on the history given you seem to have
acute pyelonephritis.
It is a common bacterial infection of the
renal pelvis and kidney most often seen in young adult women.
Nitrofurantoin is a urinary antiseptic (antibacterial activity only in the urine) and is commonly prescribed for the treatment and prevention of uncomplicated lower
urinary tract infections or recurrent urinary infections.
It has no systemic antibacterial activity hence not effective in the treatment of acute pyelonephritis.
In view of the above, I would advise you to consult a physician for proper clinical examination and treatment.
You may be asked to do urine analysis and culture and sensitivity of the urine sample.
Depending upon the result of the culture and sensitivity of urine, you will be prescribed a course of antibiotics like
Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily for 7-10 days. Take plenty of oral fluids and maintain an adequate urine out put.
Hope this answers your query.
