Suggest Treatment For Gastritis, Dizziness And Stomach Issues

My gastro doctor prescribed mirtzazapine to relieve my gastritis issues along with acid reducer. My question is the mirtzazapine makes me fuzzy headed during the day and I m not quite sure why he would prescribe this medication for my stomach issues as I know it is for depression. I take 1/4 pill before bed. (15 mg)

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the Mirtazapine is a specific molecule which is acting over alpha 2 receptors at presynaptic vesicles of neurotransmitters and hence raise the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine. It is absolutely not indicated for gastric complains solely, unless it is associated with underlying neurologic symptoms.

As there is dizziness after the intake of Mirtazapine, I would quote to stop it at earliest before further disturbances take over in the multiple body system.

My guidelines at present:
- Drink more liquids
- Strict dietary measures
- Regular aerobics
- Control of body weight
- Proton pump inhibitor as omeprazole or pantoprazole on empty stomach
- Avoid smoking, alcohol if consuming

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
