Suggest Treatment For Ground Hornets Bite

I was stung by a ground hornet this afternoon and scratched the area to get rid of the stinger. I took care of the injury later with Motrin and ice, but it still hurts very badly. I have also tried bleach, peroxide, after bite, calamine lotion and Benadryl. Nothing is working.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
What things you have done following hornet sting is partially right. The reason why the symptoms have still not subsided could be due to local inflammatory reaction which has flared up.
Kindly do the following to overcome the symptoms:
1. Remove the Stinger by scraping the area with a fingernail or by using tweezers to remove it. Don't pinch the stinger as it would inject more venom.
2. Control Swelling by keeping ice-packs on the bite area. If the site is your arm or leg, you need to keep it elevated.
3. Treat Symptoms
(a) For pain, take an over-the-counter painkiller like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
(b) For itchiness, take an antihistamine like loratidine. You can also apply a mixture of baking soda and water or calamine lotion.
It might take 2-5 days for the area to heal. Keep it clean to prevent infection.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
