Suggest Treatment For Hangnail In A Diabetic Patient

I have had diabetes for a year. I take metformin for this and my blood sugar is controlled. I have always had a recurring hangnail on my right big toe, but since I have been diagnosed with diabetes it has actually hurts. The first time I treated it with liquid bandade. It worked. Should I continue to do this. Also is my hangnail changing because I have diabetes?

Podiatrist 's  Response
If you have a recurring ingrown nail issue you should get the nail partially removed. It is a procedure called a partial matrixectomy where we cut a small portion of that side of the nail all the way back to the root below the cuticle and removed that wedge of nail. We then put a chemical in the corner so that portion of nail never grows back so it will never bother you after that. We can only do this however if you have enough circulation to the foot and if your diabetes if under control. I recommend you make an appointment with a podiatrist. Hope this helps.
