Suggest Treatment For Hard Lump On The Upper Back Area

Hi! I am 24 years old, 5 7 and weigh about 125 pounds. I have always have been healthy and decently active. My husband just found a half dollar sized lump on my upper back, on top of my spinal cord. It is painless, colorless, and moves when pushed. Should I take this seriously since it s not painful! Could it be cancerous? Thank you for your time! Lyndi

General & Family Physician 's  Response
As per your history is concerned the lump which you have might be a LIPOMA so please check it size first if it is greater than 5 CM or not.If greater than 5 CM remove surgically and do a biopsy to ruled out from liposarcoma .Liposarcomas are cancerous tumors in fatty tissues grow rapidly,do not move under the skin, and usually painful.
Treatment includes-
A)surgical removal-If it bothers you due to cosmetic reasons or big in size which attract other peoples mind
B)Steroid injection-It can be tried before surgery
C)Liposuction-A needle and large syringe is used to suck the fatty material
Any doubt arises send a high resolution photo.(Thanks)
