I have had the worst headache of my life. Tody is day 9. It feels as if my blood rushes to my brain when pain is worse. I have blood vessels on my temples bulge out. Laying down helps my head but medicine doesn t. I can t get to the neurologist for another 15 days. What could be my problem?.

Hello!

I read carefully your question and I think that your symptoms may be related to a low intracranial pressure or a temporal arteritis.

Have you measured your blood pressure. A low blood pressure can also cause headache which gets better when laying down.

I recommend you to consult with a neurologist, have a routine blood test for inflammation. A brain CT scan or MRI is needed to establish the diagnosis.

In case of an intracranial low pressure other tests may be necessary like a spinal tab to measure the cerebrospinal fluid pressure.

Hope to have been of help.

Greetings!

Dr. Aida
