Suggest Treatment For Headache, painful Bump On The Forehead And Vomiting

Hello, I fell and hit my forehead 2weeks ago. It was a bad bump and I was vomiting afterwards so my husband took me to the hospital where they did a CT scan and there was no damage to bones etc. I was kept in for observation for 6 hours and then allowed to go home. I subsequently developed a black eye and bruising down the side of my face which is gradually getting better, however my husband has been hassling me that maybe the doctors didn t do a good job. I was a nurse before I married and have told him that I do not have any headaches inside my head, rather just minor pain around the lump on my head that I feel is related to the trauma and it is easily treated with paracetamol. He is suggesting I need to go to see my own doctor, but I am fine with resting and waiting for the lump and bruising to resolve itself. The doctor at the hospital told me that it would take up to 6 weeks for the injury to heal and I can see improvements every day, but my husband cannot understand why the whole side of my face developed bruising after a few days. Can you explain that to me. Thanks Trish Boyce

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The many of the clinical manifestations after injury show up hours or days later visible to our eyes. The same thing happens for hematoma formation, blood shot eyes in head injury. There is absolutely no panic with normal CT brain and follow basic guidelines as below:
- Apply ice over the hematoma part 3 times a day
- Continue medications if prescribed as:
* Antibiotics (prevent secondary bacterial infection)
-* Anti-inflammatory (to resolve hematoma faster)
* Analgesic as acetaminophen or others
* Eye drops as moxifloxacin or else
- Be in regular follow up with your doctor

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
