ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi, sudden sensorineural hearing loss can be because of various reasons which most of the times are very difficult to find out. The treatment is usually in the form of heavy doses of steroids which needs to be started immediately or with in 24 hours (as early as possible). Alternatively, more common reason for hearing loss in a child is otitis media with effusion and that will lead to conductive type of hearing loss. A pure tone audiometry will help in deciding the type of loss. If loss is conductive, a tympanometry will be required. Regards
