Suggest Treatment For Heart Palpitations While Having Diabetes

I am a diabetic for the last 28 years now. I started insulin over a year ago and my weight has ballooned significantly. Also started bp meds about 8 months ago. I have been known to consume my fair share of beers. Since June I have had heart palpitations. Yesterday I had one which was vicious and went on for way over an hour. Not sure what is causing these palpitations but I did consume a cup of coffee before yesterday s attack. The doctor says its non cardiac palpitations which should respond to the beta blocker they have described, but am not sure what next.

Hello.
I hope by palpitation you mean that you feel your own heart beats which is strong and fast. If yes then i would like to let you know that Palpitation are common in individuals with Diabetes and superimposed Hypertension.
Some times fluctuations in Blood Sugar levels also causes Palpitations.
Your Blood Glucose levels and Blood Pressure must be under good control. Here i suggest you to get your Lipids level, Kidney functions checked as these are of great concern both in Diabetes and Hypertension.
As far as Beta Blockers are concerned your Doctor is right, Beta Blocker will control Palpitations. But Beta blockers( non Selective) are usually not prescribed in Diabetes.
If your problem comes frequently then kindly consult a cardiologist.
Hope it helped. Wishing you Health.
