Suggest Treatment For Heartburn And A Lump On The Throat While Having Thyroid Disease

Hi. I m a t1d with thyroid disease. Lately I ve been having bad heartburn, with what feels like a lump in my throat. Also my stools are not solid and are clay colored. I m currently on protonics for my heartburn, twice daily. 80mg. I am getting a colonoscopy and endoscopy done next month. Should I be overly worried? At least at this time? Thank you.

Hello,

Thyroid enlargement can cause nodules, single or multiple nodules (lumps). You are advised to get yourself clinically examined, get required blood tests and imaging tests done like thyroid function tests, ultrasonography to differentiate cysts from solid nodules, thyroid scan, biopsy to rule out any malignancy.

Your symptoms are indicative of developing thyroid nodules that can cause acid reflux and trigger gastrointestinal tract causing heartburn. For relief, you can take PPIs, proton pump inhibitors & avoid taking food that trigger gas formation. Take homemade bland food. Avoid taking hot, spicy oily food. Take food in time, do not miss meals. Get a Stool examination test (R/E and C/S) to detect pathology causing you symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
